Short Courses

Chatswood Communicators Toastmasters Club offers courses called 'Speechcraft' on presentation skills and public speaking.

There are two options :

1) Firstly we offer a 6 week course, one night per week for 6 weeks, 6.45pm - approx. 9.45pm. The course runs for 6 consecutive Tuesday evenings.

2) Secondly we offer a two day course, (2 Saturdays), 9am-4.30pm with pre course preparation.

The 2007 courses, over 2- full days, will be held:

1) Saturdays September 1 and 15

Courses include extensive notes and a certificate of achievement. The evening courses include a light supper.

The course is based on Toastmasters' principles of better thinking, listening and speaking and includes extensive participation and practice of skills. Content will cover these topics:

-presentation skills, gestures and body language, networking, meetings and leadership, role of the MC including introducing and thanking speakers;

-preparation and delivery of formal presentations, constructing a speech with powerful openings and closings, the role of brainstorming;

-humour, best use of voice and language, analytical listening and leadership;

-the impact of visuals (use of data projector or overhead projector optional),

-speaking in praise, the toast, wedding speeches and more.

-continuing to put the skills into action, graduation

Every meeting will include practice of impromptu speaking with structured answers, as well as delivering prepared assignments and formal presentations.

Venue for all courses: Club Willoughby, 26 Crabbes Avenue, cnr Penshurst Street Willoughby (plenty of parking) or city bus on Penshurst Street.

Should you decide to take up membership of our Toastmasters club as well, the club joining fee is considered to be paid and the cost is simply the 6-monthly charge.

Cancellation fee one month to one week prior to course commencement is $50. Because the course agenda is a logistical exercise to allow maximum speaking opportunities for each participant, we regret we are unable to accept cancellations or provide any refunds 7 days (5 working days) prior to course commencement. .

Note that club meetings are 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, 7pm (to approx 9.45pm) at Club Willoughby.

Visitors are welcome to these meetings free of charge.
